The voices of children in family law cases

Front and centre in family law matters is the best interests of the child. There’s been much discussion about the impact of expanded definitions in recent amendments to the Family Law Act.

But the reforms also include a new object: the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. At the moment children are heard in family law matters through the filters of a family consultant and/or a lawyer.

Could incorporating the UN convention give children a more direct voice?
