Continuing Professional Development

Undertake continual professional development to meet your AMDRAS and FDRP accreditation requirements.

These specialist courses and events are delivered by practicing mediators, and allow you to add input on key subjects.

Our Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Events are a constantly evolving portfolio of short training courses and events. The events are held online on the Australian Mediation Association’s training platform. Our CPD Events are designed and delivered by experts in the field, aiming to deepen and broaden your skills and knowledge as a professional mediator.

The proposed CPD program is intended to cover mediation skills, practice and specific content areas. The CPD workshops will be identified as either skills sessions or speciality sessions to assist in selection. The program will appeal to mediators from all different disciplines.

27 February 2024 (5.00pm – 6.30pm): Exploration : why is it so important, yet so often ignored?

This presentation will look at the exploration stage of the mediation process; why is it so important whether you are conducting a facilitative, settlement or even evaluative mediation. What needs to be explored and why will be the focus of this webinar.

Mediation refresher #1: This webinar will cover defining mediation and how it fits along the ADR spectrum. The different models of mediation will be identified and how they can assist in resolving different disputes. The focus of this webinar will be on the facilitative mediation model, what it looks like and the participants will be walked through the stages of the process and strategies and tips for working with the model will be highlighted.

Mediation refresher #2: This Professional Development webinar will focus on the skills associated with mediation, it will highlight the skills and how best to use them to assist parties in moving through the mediation process. It will also highlight some of the areas that give both new and experienced mediators difficulty, how to work with the impasses and obstacles that come in mediation and how best to handle highly conflictual parties and situations.

Not all matters need the facilitative model or the settlement or even the evaluative model, you need to assess what model (or hybrid) will be most effective for the matter and the parties. 26 November 2024 (5.00pm – 6.30pm): “Resistance is Futile” why some parties are resistant to mediation

We have all experienced parties who are resistant to mediation, whether not wanting to attend the intake or when in mediation are evasive or defensive. This webinar will look at the reasons behind the resistance and tips and strategies to work and hopefully overcome this resistance.
