How to become a Mediator
The Australian Mediation Association strongly supports and is committed to the application and implementation of the Australian Mediator and Dispute Resolution Accreditation Standards.
The Association is a Recognised Accreditation Provider (RAP) under the standards, and acts to maintain and further develop the national mediation accreditation scheme.
Step 1
Complete a training program
You will need to complete a mediator training program meeting the training threshold requirements set out in the AMDRAS Approval Standards.
Step 2
Achieve grading in an assessment
On completing a training course, achieve a competent grading in an assessment conducted in accordance with the AMDRAS Approval Standards.
Step 3
Apply To An RAP
Once you have received notification of your successful assessment, apply to a Recognised Accreditation Provider (RAP) for accreditation within 6 months. Your RAP will advise you of additional requirements such as character references and professional indemnity insurance.
Step 4: Your Name Will Be Added To The National Register
The RAP that has approved your application for accreditation will enter your name on the National Register. Your accreditation will remain valid for a 2 year period unless you cease to comply with the AMDRAS. The public can verify your status by searching the

Become a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner with the Mediator Training Academy
Successfully completing the Graduate Diploma of Family Dispute Resolution allows graduates to register with the Australian Attorney General to become a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner.
This study can be done quickly and online in the comfort of your own home or office throughout Australia.
