The successful completion of the practicum certificate (PC) course is a requirement to being appointed as an Advanced Mediator: see Part 4, Division 7 and Appendix 1 (pars 32-39) of the AMDRAS.

  • Course 1: There will be 4 (three-hour sessions online) held over one to two weeks beginning the week of 18th May 2026, exact days and time to be advised upon enrolment.
  • Course 2: There will be 4 (three-hour sessions online) held over one to two weeks beginning the week of 18th November 2026, exact days and time to be advised upon enrolment.
  • There will be webinars held in first two weeks each course, exact days and times will be given to the participants upon enrolment.

The Practicum Certificate course is designed for those mediators with the appropriate requirements to complete so they can apply to become an Advanced Mediator under AMDRAS. The workshop will be conducted over a series of three-hour sessions and will be based on cases presented and analysed by the participants. Those presentations will then be used to guide activities and role plays that all participants will be involved in. These workshops will be limited to 12 participants for maximum participation and learning.

Prior to enrolling Participants need to show evidence of:

  1. Being an Accredited Mediator for at least four (4) years (two complete renewal cycles); and
  2. Completed at least 150 practice hours.

  1. To identify practice obstacles and challenges in mediation, and ways of overcoming them.
  2. To identify and demonstrate an understanding of the purpose, techniques and skills required for each stage of the mediation process.
  3. To be more aware of socio-cultural considerations when mediating with culturally and linguistically diverse communities, or with Indigenous Australians.
  4. To be more aware of socio-cultural considerations when mediating with diversity across community including but not exclusively LTBQIA +, neurodiversity and other groups of diversity.
  5. To identify and demonstrate the characteristics of a mindful and reflective

The course will be run over four (4) weeks at 3 hours per week at times to be negotiated. The course will be run online and will be conducted by 1-2 principal instructors depending on numbers and design of workshop.

Program details will be provided upon enrolment to the course, including details around case summary submissions.

Each participant will then present their case study based on their pre- course precis submission; presentations will take 30 to 45 minutes.

Participants will then take part in created exercises and extension activities based on the case studies and the professional, ethical, cultural or other dilemmas that have been identified.

  1. Participants must successfully and fully complete both the Practicum Certificate (PC) workshop and the written assessment to be awarded a Practicum Certificate.
  2. The PC written assessment cannot be completed until the PC workshop has been fully completed by the participant.
  3. The PC written assessment is an 800–1000-word case study presentation including required criteria.
  4. The PC assessment should be received within seven (7) days after completion of the workshop, the written details of submission dates and requirements will be provided at the time of enrolment in the PC.
  5. The assessment will be marked as either ‘satisfactory’ or ‘not satisfactory’ and written feedback will be provided. The results will be given to the participants in a timely fashion within two (2) weeks of the due date.
